What is a Pareto Chart?
Pareto charts in LENS offer several benefits to your team. They help identify significant problems by highlighting the key factors that contribute to negative outcomes. By prioritizing improvement efforts based on the Pareto principle, your team can focus on the critical few factors that have the most impact. Pareto charts provide a visual representation of data, making it easier to understand and communicate findings. They enable data-driven decision making, facilitate effective communication among stakeholders, and support continuous improvement by monitoring progress over time.
Create a Pareto Chart
To create a Pareto chart, gather data on various categories or "factors". LENS will rank them in descending order based on their frequency and plot them on a bar chart. Analyze the chart to identify the few critical factors that contribute to the majority of problems or issues, enabling effective prioritization and decision making in improvement efforts.

Measure Title: Assign a name for your Pareto Chart
Measure Type: By default, Pareto charts are selected but Days Between, Image, Number, Percent, and Rate measures are also available options.
Linked Aims: You have the option of linking this measure to one or more existing AIMs
Question: This should ask, what are the key factors contributing to the majority of ____ problem?
Factor: A specific category or element that is being analyzed and measured. Factors represent different variables or aspects that contribute to a problem or outcome. The order of input does not matter.
Note: LENS allows a maximum of 7 factors.

A user does not need to have manager access to add data to a Pareto chart. For example, a team member can add a data point from the physical touchscreen board (which is logged into the non-manager generic account).

As data is added, the factors will be automatically rank in descending order to identify the most significant contributors.
Each factor is represented by a bar in the Pareto chart, and their heights reflect the frequency, occurrence, or impact of the factor.
The line on a Pareto chart represents the cumulative percentage of the total, illustrating the contribution of each factor as it increases. It serves as a visual reference, helping identify the point where a few significant factors account for the majority of the total percentage.
